Trace simplifies purchasing and budget management.

We provide a smart and collaborative way to manage budgets, make purchases, and analyze financial performance.

Today, we're excited to announce the Trace platform is available to the public! We've been quietly building for two years and conducted an extensive beta period to ensure our product was ready to delight growth-stage and enterprise businesses. Along with our core purchase platform, we're also launching two new products: Budgets and Analytics.

Why Trace?

My entire career has centered around financial technology – from building and managing financial systems at companies like Facebook and TIAA-CREF, to leading Finance at a 1,500+ employee high-growth business. My most significant learning through it all was that working with Finance is incredibly complex for our business partners. Our purchasers and budget-owners have to deal with budget requests, vendor reviews, contract policies, BvA meetings, and POs – most of which happens with siloed workflows, manual data entry, spreadsheets, and a lot of time and frustration.

For the people Finance supports – our CEO, VP Engineering, Head of Marketing, and every employee – we have to do better. We have to give them a 10x better experience and make them 2x more efficient. A simple way to create value is to save time for value-creating teams. Every minute they save on a finance task is a minute they could be building products, running campaigns, and leading their teams. But it’s the experience we provide to the people we support that matters the most. We build trust by operating at high standards and that’s how we earn a seat at the table and influence financial decisions – the financial decisions that translate to our financial results.

For Finance team members – we've been in your seat and intimately understand your hardest problems. We’ve dealt with manual budget reviews and tedious reconciliations. We’ve wasted time digging through folders, tracking down approvals, and managing endless spreadsheets. We’ve watched the clock tick while our reports struggled with the complexity and depth of financial data. And we’ve suffered sleepless nights worrying if we missed something, scrambled to board meetings, and grinded through endless audits.

Introducing Trace

Trace is the first Budget-to-Pay platform, providing smart and collaborative financial operations and analytics. With Trace, employees can manage their budgets, make purchases, and track their performance. Trace is for early Procurement teams and advanced FP&A and Accounting teams ready to automate their work and delight their budget-owners and purchasers.

Unlike incumbent spend management systems, Trace’s purchase experience guides buyers with a single flow – orchestrating teams and integrating systems for budget requests, security and contract reviews, and purchase orders. Our dynamic workflows are built to handle your most essential spend categories – software, services, contractors, and goods. We unify FP&A, Procurement, and Accounting for you by connecting budgets to purchase workflows and financial reporting. And our lightning-fast analytics connect all your ERP and budget data – so your analysts can navigate from summary level dashboards to granular purchase and contract information in an instant.

Our Team

When I think about our journey so far, I’m reminded of a tweet by Max Levchin, “single best criterion for choosing a co-founder: someone you want to impress, every day.” This criteria is true for our co-founders – Matt Gonzalez and Martin Destagnol – but also our entire team. We are relentless in our common pursuit to make Finance simple and we do this to improve the financial health of all businesses so their people can thrive. Our mission is now more important than ever.

Our approach to making Finance simple is rooted in engineering excellence and beautiful design – these characteristics are in our DNA. Most companies talk a big game about user experience and design – our CTO, Martin Destagnol, and his team have the track-record, expertise, and product to back it up.  We’re honored to say, “Built for Finance, by Finance” – but it’s really, “Built for Finance, by Finance & world-class R&D.”

We’re building the future of Finance technology, and our story is just getting started.
